Hoyer VMS Group has developed a system, Hoyer VMS EnergyEdgeTM that leads to significant reductions in energy consumption by cooling pumps and fans on ships and cuts emissions of CO2, sulfur, and nitrogen, among other pollutants. The growing focus on energy efficiency makes the technology attractive to shipowners worldwide.
For many years, pumps and HVAC systems on ships have operated like a faucet with no ability to adjust the flow: maximum flow regardless of demand. Hoyer VMS Group has introduced an innovative solution, Hoyer VMS EnergyEdgeTM (Energy Savings Solution), which optimises energy consumption in refrigeration pumps and fans on ships. Energy savings typically range from 45 to 70 percent. In addition, shipowners achieve a significant reduction in emissions of, among other things, CO₂, sulfur (SOx), and nitrogen (NOx), as well as less wear and tear on critical components, which limits the need for replacement.
The rationale behind the solution is that pumps and HVAC fans on ships have, for many years, been running constantly at maximum capacity because the systems are designed to handle the most demanding scenarios, including high-speed sailing.

Hoyer VMS EnergyEdgeTM is a user-optimised solution that combines the use of variable-speed drives, sensors, and automation to reduce energy consumption. The system analyses real-time data and continuously adjusts the speed of fans and pumps when, for example, sailing speed and ventilation requirements change.
