Hoyer VMS continues to develop its position in the marine thruster market, responding to increased demand from thruster manufacturers for fit-for-purpose motor solutions combined with strong aftermarket support.
Hoyer VMS has recently introduced a new line of thruster motors. The latest project delivery is thruster motors for a multi-purpose vessel built in China for a German shipowner. The vessel is expected to be launched in 2027.
Marine insight supports new product solutions
While the thruster is critical to vessel maneuverability, its motor specification must be carefully matched to the demands of the installation. Hoyer VMS’s extensive aftermarket experience and R&D capabilities, provides valuable insight into the practical requirements, bringing knowledge from equipment in operation into the development of new solutions.
For the MPP vessel project, Hoyer VMS customises open drip proof (ODP) motors particularly suited to the bow thruster.
“The knowledge we gain from marine equipment in operation gives us a strong understanding of the practical demands involved. We bring that experience into new projects, working with thruster customers to develop solutions well suited to their specific application requirements,” says Jonas Løgstrup Hansen, VP Marine at Hoyer VMS Group.
New opportunities in the thruster market
Hoyer VMS is seeing significant growth opportunities in the thruster market. Having supplied motors across a wide range of vessel applications, including thrusters, the company continues to strengthen and broaden its expertise in developing dedicated motor solutions for highly demanding applications. This expands Hoyer VMS newbuild business and creates an opportunity to capture more value from a large and established market.
At the same time, the expansion of its marine offering supports Hoyer VMS’ ambition to grow its business beyond delivering motors for newbuilds. This is enabled by the global MRO capabilities across thrusters, engines and propulsion systems added through the merger in 2025. Together, these capabilities create closer relationships with shipyards and shipowners, allowing the company to support customers beyond the initial delivery as a one-stop partner throughout the equipment lifecycle.
"For us, growth in the thruster market and growth in newbuilding market go hand in hand. We want to be there when the equipment is specified and built, but also when our customers need support years later. Our goal is to be a lifetime partner to the marine industry," says Jonas Løgstrup Hansen.
