Hoyer VMS Group expands China headquarters to strengthen uptime, reliability and lifecycle support across Asia
Hoyer VMS Group is now expanding its Asian headquarters in China to help shipowners and fleet managers simplify service and repair across Asia.
Hoyer VMS Group, a global one-stop partner for power and motion solutions at sea, is expanding its Asian headquarters in Ningbo, China. The 3,800 m2 warehouse and workshop expansion enhances Hoyer VMS capabilities in supporting shipowners, fleet managers, shipyards and OEM customers across Asia.
Asia remains a strategic growth region for the maritime industry, with many of the world’s largest shipowners, fleet operators and shipyards located in the region. By strengthening its local presence in China, Hoyer VMS Group aims to support customers closer to where vessels are built, operated and serviced.
The expansion marks the first major strategic initiative since Hoyer acquired VMS Group in November 2025, combining Hoyer’s long-standing expertise in electric motors and automation with VMS Group’s global maintenance, repair and overhaul capabilities.
“Our combined offering allows us to take responsibility for power and motion solutions across the entire lifecycle of a vessel – from newbuild and commissioning to service, optimisation and retrofit. For shipowners and shipyards, this means fewer interfaces, lower operational risk and one accountable partner who stays with them long after delivery,” says Søren Ø. Sørensen, Chairman of the Board of Hoyer VMS Group, and continues:
“To deliver that level of accountability, we must be present locally while leveraging the strength of our global organisation. The expansion in China is a concrete example of how we are aligning global reach with local execution.”
Customers prefer a single-source supplier
The 3,800-square-metre expansion of the Ningbo headquarters will support employees relocating to China from March, alongside the gradual build-up of a local Chinese workforce.
What sets Hoyer VMS Group apart from others is its operational presence on board ships around the world. Every day, Hoyer VMS service teams are already on board ships across the globe. With the expanded capabilities, those teams can now perform system-wide checks and inspections of propulsion systems and electric motors throughout the vessel – not only when failures occur, but proactively, before breakdowns impact operations.
Hoyer VMS Group’s increased presence in China thus offers clear advantages for the company’s customers throughout Asia.
“When our technicians are already onboard, they can inspect electric motors, identify early warning signs and address potential issues before a motor breaks down,” says Henrik Sørensen, CEO of Hoyer VMS Group.
“This proactive approach reduces downtime, prevents costly damage and allows crews and fleet managers to plan maintenance instead of reacting to breakdowns. And because our teams are already present, we can often support multiple systems at the same time.”
For shipowners and fleet managers, this means improved uptime, fewer disruptions and more predictable operations. For shipyards, it means smoother handovers from newbuild to operation. And for OEM customers, it means motors and systems designed from the outset for high performance and a reliable, long-term service and aftermarket solution for the end customer.
A strong and growing presence in China
Henrik Sørensen emphasises that this expansion is the result of many years of investment in China and Asia.
“We have spent many years building a strong Hoyer presence in Asia, developing relationships and deep market understanding. That foundation allows us to expand our service and aftermarket offering with confidence – delivering reliability and energy efficiency for power and motion systems across the vessel,” he says.
One partner across the entire lifecycle
Hoyer VMS Group organises its offerings across three integrated value streams: OEM & New Sales, Project Sales and Aftermarket Service.
For OEM customers, the group delivers application-driven motor, drive and control solutions engineered for the full lifecycle – with a seamless handover from project delivery to global service and aftermarket support.
For shipyards and operators undertaking retrofits, conversions or energy-efficiency upgrades, Hoyer VMS Group acts as a single project owner, managing engineering, integration, commissioning and compliance while coordinating closely with authorities.
In the aftermarket, global service teams, workshops and spare-parts logistics ensure rapid response, multi-brand service and data-driven optimisation – all with a direct link back to OEM and project expertise.
“By combining electric motors, engines, service and energy optimisation under one roof, we can support customers throughout the vessel’s lifetime,” says Henrik Sørensen.
“This is not just about fixing what breaks. It is about securing performance, compliance and operational reliability – day after day.”
